----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ID-12 ANI MDC-1200®Encoder

The ID-12 is a state-of-the-art, micro-miniature encoder that transmits a digital ANI in the Motorola® MDC-1200® format. The signal it sends is identical to that sent by a Motorola radio. It can be used for the entire fleet, or where part of the fleet has Motorola radios with MDC-1200 and part of the fleet does not.

  • Micro-miniature size (.75" x .72" x .12")
  • Motorola® MDC-1200 format
  • Cost-effective solution for entire fleet
  • Compatible with all radios--any brand or model, both portables and mobiles
  • Operates in the presence of any squelch control
  • Digital burst can be transmitted over any RF link, over telephone lines, microwave, trunking, or voting system
  • Includes stuck mike timer circuitry
  • Programmable leading and/or trailing ID
  • Emergency alert: with a switch closure, the ID-12 will send an emergency ID 8 times and then reset
  • Comes with 14" flying leads
  • Hooks up to the transmitter mike audio, PTT line, power and ground

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's

1. Does the ID-1201 operate on AC or DC?
The ID-1201 comes with an AC/DC wall adapter and most users run it on 115VAC.  However, without the adapter you can run it on 11 to 15VDC.

2.Does the ID-1201 need to be hooked up to a receiver to operate?
Yes, it needs to be hooked up to the audio from a receiver that is receiving the MDC-1200 signal.

3.Does the ID-1201 need to be programmed?
No. The unit will decode any MDC-1200 ID that is received. With its 4-digit capability, it will decode any number between 1 and 9999.

4. Where is the best place to hook up the ID-1201 to a receiver?
Usually the discriminator output is best, but anywhere in the audio chain will work with the proper level.

5. Can the ID-1201 be hooked up to the receiver’s speaker output?
Most of the time the speaker output will work. However, because the speaker is controlled by a volume control, when the level is very low or very high or distorted, it will adversely affect the decoding.

6. Does the ID-1201 decode IDs from any radio?
It will decode the ID from any radio that has the MDC-1200 feature or from any radio that has Control Signal’s ID-12 encoder.

7. How many digits will the ID-1201 display?
It displays up to 4 numerical digits. It will lop off any leading zeros.

8. Can the display be seen in a bright light environment?
Yes. The numbers on the display are large (3/4” high) and use “super-bright” LEDs.

9. Can the ID-1201 decode MDC-1200 ANI received over a phone line?
Yes, as long as the ID burst is at the proper level and there is no distortion.

10. Are the IDs tagged with the date and time
Yes, the ID-1201 tags the ID when it is decoded. The time and date are not displayed, but are sent to the printer port and serial (RS232) port along with the ID.

11. Can the ID-1201 scroll backwards or display more than one ID?
No, the unit can display only one ID at a time. When a new ID is decoded, the previous ID is replaced on the display by the new ID. But all IDs--with date and time--are sent to the printer and serial ports.

12. Will the ID-1201 decode an Emergency ID
Yes. Any MDC-1200 Emergency ID will be decoded. The display will flash and an audible alarm will alert the dispatcher. The Emergency ID will remain on the display until the dispatcher clears the screen.

13. What are the three push buttons on the top of the unit for?
When the ID-1201 is first installed, the buttons are used to set the date and time. When an Emergency ID is received, the buttons are used to silence the audible alarm and then clear the screen.

14. Will the ID-1201 decode alpha or hexadecimal IDs?
No, the unit will decode only numerical IDs up to four digits

15. Can the ID-1201 operate in the presence of PL tones?
Yes. PL tones will not affect the decoding, and the decoding will not affect the PL tones.

16. Can the ID-1201 be mounted in a motor vehicle
Yes. The base of the ID-1201 can be removed, exposing two 6-32 threaded holes which can be used to mount the unit on a flat surface. The ID-1201 can operate from 11 to 15VDC.

17. Is the ID-1201 available on a rack panel?
No. However, holes can be drilled in the steel enclosure for mounting in various ways.

18. Can the ID-1201 display the IDs on a computer monitor?
Yes. The ID-1201 serial (RS232) output can be connected to a computer. Then, using Windows HyperTerminal, the decoded IDs, date and time can be displayed on a monitor. They will appear in tabular form, with a selectable font size. The serial port is a 9-pin DB connector.

19. Can the ID-1201 print out the IDs?
The ID-1201 does not have an internal printer.  The unit has a printer (parallel) port. When a printer is connected to this port, it will print the IDs with the received date and time.  The printer port is a 25-pin DB connector.

20. Can the ID-1201 control an external device?
An optional feature of the ID-1201 is a output that will go high (to 12VDC) when an emergency ID is received.  Please call Control Signal for details.

21. Does the ID-1201 have a selective calling capability or acknowledgement feature?
No.

22. Does the ID-1201 have a warranty?
Yes, the unit has a one-year factory warranty.

23. Can I return the unit if I am not happy with it?
Yes. If, within 30 days of purchase, you are not happy with the unit for any reason, you can return it for a refund (less shipping).
